We will be revisiting the concept of proportion Do at least 10 problems from GMM by Monday, Jan 22 We will do a interim test on Smarter Balance next class period, Friday January 19th
Today, students were guided through the types of problems that will be on that assessment. Students HW is to complete at least 25 problems from their GMM program by Friday ( due when they arrive in class) Tests are always curved. For instance, if there were 40 problems on the test and the average of the class was 25, then the average is set to a B- and a students score is reflection of the class mean.
The Goal is to have at least sixty problems by Friday, the day of the Final
On Friday, we will take a Test on GMM. The test will have thirty problems Students are expected to get at least thirty problems correct for the week. Any more than the goal is counted as extra credit.
Topics this week include : Simplifying expressions with the distributive property and then gathering like terms I will set a goal for how many problems a student should get correct for the day. The GMM program tells how many points a student has earned for the day.
Parents, you can track your child's progress daily by asking them to show you their iPad. For instance, if I set a goal of at least ten problems correct for the day, then the student will receive ten Quiz points for that day. If students choose to do accomplish more than what was assigned, then they will earn one Extra Credit point for every problem above what was assigned. The GMM also tracks their attempts. Students do not receive credit if they get the problem wrong. Sometimes, this seems unfair to me because I observe students working really hard at the problem and they may indeed know the right answer but the program can be fussy about how its imputed. Thus, students will also be graded on attempts which will be their HomeWork grade. For instance, say I assigned 10 problems and it took a student 15 attempts to get the problem set accomplished. Then the student would earn five extra credit points which is added to their HomeWork grade. For now, I have set a Goal of at least 10 problems done correctly per day for all assignments with GMM. That means, a students will receive a total of thirty problems for the week and has seven days in order to accomplish this goal. Students will have a Final which will be GMM based. Those points are weighted as TEST points. The Semester is coming to an end rapidly, so I hope I can get the support at home to make sure your child is successful. Every student is capable of earning an "A" under this system if the hard work is done in class and at home. This is a review of concepts from chapter three of Big Ideas
The goal is to get at least twenty done for the day. Anything more is extra credit |
