Please do: You Tube Star from Scholastic pg. 6-7 . I will allow a calculator to find answers but you need to show clearly the set ups. Answers only not acceptable. Responses should be in the form of a complete sentence. Winter Warm Up. pg. 12 . Do not give letter answer but instead state explicitly the correct answer. This is Due on Monday Jan, 29 Make a Five Number Summary from the data set:
49, 50 , 70, 56, 58, 66, 57, 62, 63, 64 A list of heights of a Girls Basketball team Inclass Assignment Make sure these things are done from the Cereal Packet: How Much is Too Much Sugar? Dot plot, pg. 457 Be able to tell which measure of center is greater ( mean or median) if the data is skewed left, skewed right, or symmetric. pg. 458. Please read the descriptions of data distributions sets on 459. Determine each percent of data below of above a quartile point- Q1, Med, Q3 pg. 461 Construct a box and whisker plot from a five number summary. Pg. 462 Inclass: Puffin Protectors : Write sentences to explain the following. Vocab: intrepid, vulnerable, craggy, census What was the goal of the researchers? What other bird does a puffin resemble? Where do puffins nest? Where are the Shetland Islands? Do puffins mate for life? How many eggs do puffins lay per breeding season? Why do scientist believe the numbers of Puffins are decreasing? Math Time: How is the mean different than the median? Both are measures of the center of data. Look up the definition of each and use words to describe mean and median. Here is a data sample of Test scores in one of Mr. Kamada's Math One classes. { 65, 73, 62, 58, 105, 69, 71 } Find the mean and median of the Test Scores. Then remove the score 105 from the data set and find the mean and median again. How does removing the score of 105 affect the measures of center ( Mean and Median) ? HW: Answer questions 1-5 Although the Semester ends technically on Jan 12th, I will allow students to earn as many extra credit points as possible by working through the Get More Math program through the weekend.
One page of hand written notes will be allowed on the test. Students can put anything they like on this cheat sheet: example: multiplication table
No Calculators will be allowed for the final. Too many students did not do any attempts on Tuesday and came into class behind on their weekly assignment. Students need to be consistent daily in order to be successful. Jan 8th: C day:
Do at least twenty five problems before we meet again: A day -Tuesday ; Jan 9th B day Wednesday Jan 10th On the next class meeting, you will continue to work on the Practice Final. The assignment has a total of 50 problems which needs to be completed by the day of your Final. The Final will be constructed on GMM . The Final will have a total of thirty problems. The final needs to be submitted by the end of the class period. Thursday: A day Friday : B day We met two class periods and I expect students to have at least 20 problems correct for the week.
Any more than the goal counts as extra credit. The topic of study this week is Linear Inequalities: graph and word problem applications I will set a goal for how many problems a student should get correct for the day. The GMM program tells how many points a student has earned for the day.
Parents, you can track your child's progress daily by asking them to show you their iPad. For instance, if I set a goal of at least ten problems correct for the day, then the student will receive ten Quiz points for that day. If students choose to do accomplish more than what was assigned, then they will earn one Extra Credit point for every problem above what was assigned. The GMM also tracks their attempts. Students do not receive credit if they get the problem wrong. Sometimes, this seems unfair to me because I observe students working really hard at the problem and they may indeed know the right answer but the program can be fussy about how its imputed. Thus, students will also be graded on attempts which will be their HomeWork grade. For instance, say I assigned 10 problems and it took a student 15 attempts to get the problem set accomplished. Then the student would earn five extra credit points which is added to their HomeWork grade. For now, I have set a Goal of at least 10 problems done correctly per day for all assignments with GMM. That means, a students will receive a total of thirty problems for the week and has seven days in order to accomplish this goal. Students will have a Final which will be GMM based. Those points are weighted as TEST points. The Semester is coming to an end rapidly, so I hope I can get the support at home to make sure your child is successful. Every student is capable of earning an "A" under this system if the hard work is done in class and at home. |
